Sponsorship
No Strings Theatre’s Emerging Artists Program
Wordplay Creative Services is delighted to have been a sponsor for this company’s inaugural season and its production, on June 5-6, 2015, of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
The No Strings Theatre Emerging Artists Program provides an opportunity for participants with prior experience and a strong interest in musical theatre performance and/or production to explore and develop skills under the mentorship of experienced industry professionals. The program emphasizes the collaborative nature of theatre production by encouraging participants to take ownership of all aspects of the staging of a musical theatre production, including performance, stage and production management, design and directing, budgeting, marketing, and promotion.
And what better show for an editorial company to support? The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a hilarious musical (music and lyrics by William Finn) in which six quirky competitors vie for the title of spelling champion, and the trophy that goes with it. As they spell their way through an increasingly difficult list of words—lugubrious, strabismus, omphaloskepsis—we discover more about their families, their motivations, and their fears. Audience members are also brought on stage to take a a turn at the microphone . . . and be sent back to their seats in defeat!
The No Strings Theatre artists—performers, interns, and mentors—did a terrific job and packed the theatre. And because Wordplay Creative Services was a real-life sponsor, we got to be the fictional sponsor as well, providing a cheque to the victorious speller!
